Trimble and Vermeer announced Sept. 25, 2025, that the Trimble Groundworks machine control system is now available for Vermeer PD10R and PD25R remote control pile drivers. The integration is designed to bring greater automation to solar farm construction, increasing the speed, accuracy and efficiency of piling operations.

With the Trimble system, the pile driver automatically navigates to a pile’s precise location based on the digital project plan. It then drives the pile to the specified depth with minimal input required from the operator, who controls the machine remotely. This allows a single operator to perform a task that typically requires a two- or three-person crew.

By automating the machine’s positioning, the system reduces the time it takes to move between piles and minimizes operator fatigue. This allows the operator to focus more on the piling process itself, which can improve jobsite productivity and worker safety.

Project managers can also use the Trimble WorksManager cloud-based software to monitor production and quality data in real time. "The combination of machine control and remote control pile drivers represents the next step on the road to autonomy and has the potential to vastly improve worker safety, productivity, speed and accuracy on solar projects," said Elwyn McLachlan, vice president of civil solutions at Trimble.

The Trimble Groundworks system for Vermeer pile drivers is available now worldwide through the SITECH distribution channel.
