A New Bridge for the St. Croix River
Engineers and contractors collaborate to build a high-tech bridge.
The new St. Croix River crossing between Minnesota and Wisconsin near Stillwater is an “extra-dosed precast segmental” structural concrete bridge. Shown here are the first three 180 ton segments on either side of the pier, held in place by post-tensioned tendons. The blue device is called a “segment lifter” and it also supports a working platform on the edge of the segment that iron-workers use to do the cable tensioning.
