A Look at Lift & Access 2012 and More

This event, held Oct. 24-25 in Orlando, FL, drew a host of equipment suppliers who exhibited a varied selection of products to a collection of buyers including some of the biggest names in the rental industry.

Oct 29, 2012

The Lift & Access Showcase and Symposium was held Oct. 24-25 in Orlando, FL, drawing a host of equipment suppliers who exhibited a varied selection of products to a collection of buyers including some of the biggest names in the rental industry. The event was located onsite at the Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers Orlando location, where a concurrent auction took place on Oct. 25.

Also occurring during the same week was the International Powered Access Federation (IPAF) annual U.S. Convention. The combination of the Lift and Access Showcase & Symposium, IPAF U.S. Convention and Ritchie Bros. auction resulted in a full week focused on the advancement of equipment technology, safety and training, as well as buying and selling.

Hosted by Maximum Capacity Media Events, along with event partners Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers and Rental Equipment Register magazine, the event also included a panel discussion on Tier 4 opportunities.

Known for its pageant-style equipment demonstrations, the Lift & Access Showcase provided a venue for leading manufacturers to highlight key features and benefits to models within the following categories: mega boom lifts, mega telehandlers and compact rough-terrain scissor lifts. Plus, for the first time, the showcase included equipment other than lifts with the inclusion of light towers. Rounding out the demonstrations, Terex also highlighted one model each from its compact track loader and skid steer lines.

Automated Grade Control’s Steady Plow Toward Full Autonomy
The same construction equipment manufacturers who brought you automated grade control precision and efficiency anticipate full autonomy as the next leap forward.
Remote control is also used when performing grading operations under Stage 3 conditions. In this instance, the operator is not on board the vehicle but operating it from a separate location using a joystick or belly box.

History Lesson: Motor Grader Attachments
Historical Construction Equipment Association
Elevating graders adapted to motor graders in the 1950s, excelling in excavation tasks and material handling with belt improvements.
One advantage of a motor grader/EGA outfit was that it required only one operator. But in some loading situations, a spotter rode out on the parent’s frame to direct hauler traffic, somewhat negating the labor savings. Courtesy: Ulrich Manufacturing Company Form 1231, n. d., HCEA Archives
