CARB Fines City of Compton for Violating Air Quality Regs

For anyone wondering if the California Air Resources Board (CARB) was enforcing the state's air quality regulations -- wonder no more. The Board recently fined the city of Compton, CA, more than $48,000 for a number of violations related to the city's fleet of diesel-fueled vehicles. While this fine is for municipal fleets it does indicate CARB is pursuing enforcement of the regulations, which could have a significant impact on contractors, particularly sweeping contractors, throughout the state. Among the fixes Compton must make -- there's a list near the end of this article -- is the following: "Install the latest, most effective and available emissions control technologies as required on applicable diesel vehicles."
